East Jordan Church 1990

EAST JORDAN United Methodist Church will celebrate its 125th anniversary with 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. services Sept. 30. The church, eight miles north of Sterling on Freeport Road, has a congregation of 200 and long has been known for its strong Sunday School program. Jennifer Koch is Sunday School superintendent. The Rev. Herb Grulke, superintendent of the DeKalb District, will preach at the 10:30 a.m. service, followed by a carry-in dinner. The Rev. Russell F. Coats, the church pastor, will preach at the 1:30 p.m. service. He was reared in the East Jordan community, as was his wife, Virginia, the daughter of a former church pastor, Dr, Lawrence N. Main. The afternoon service will include remarks by former pastors and special music. A video of church members reminiscing about the church has been made and will be shown.
